The property was first turned into a hotel by the Legendary Leeds United Footballer John Charles and when it was a private house Ellen Nussey a lifelong friend of Charlotte Brontes lived here. Oakwell Hall (Our "next door neighbours") is the inspiration for Fieldhead House in Shirley.
